The Regen Communities Summit & Incubator
The synergy and momentum created when we gather for a specific purpose is immense; allowing us to work effortlessly on the creation of exciting new systems. We are facing some monumental challenges which require more then just a few days of coming together to hear experts speak about the issues and possible solutions. Technology and land-based communities are clearly the biggest pieces but they need a lot of help to get through their growing pains.
The key is a series of multi-week incubators held at various intentional-communities that are part of a larger summit bringing together the key people to catalyze projects that will help us step into a regenerative way of living. There are so many amazing people already working on various solutions but most of them are siloed and competing for funding while recreating each other’s work.
Our twist on this summit series is orchestrating it through a DAO model where the key stakeholders are able to collaborate on the flow that makes best use of everyone’s precious time with smart contracts that unlock funding as criteria is met.
Flow
Currently, the flow is:
Select a community that can already host up to 50 people and has capacity to expand for this event.
Start with an intimate in-person gathering of key players who come ready to show where they are currently at and their proposals for moving forward.
They spend a few days hashing out the foundation and next-steps of the collaboration, like playbooks, protocols and definitions.
Game plans are presented to investors who set criteria for unlocking funding based on milestones.
They bring in their teams and specially invited individuals for a multi-week hackathon style gathering, with a holistic focus including healthy meals and some Jedi training.
A multi-day summit and mini-festival concludes the hackathon where progress is presented and further funding is attained.
Some of the attendees stay on at the community to keep the momentum going.
Refine and repeat again next quarter.
Catalyzing the Regen Community
The ultimate goal is to catalyze intentional-communities and organizations which are part of a larger Mother DAO for the Regen Community. Only by coming together as a tightly knit alliance which shares funding and where members are transparent with each other, can we hope to compete with the level of challenges presented.
A side goal is to start building out a network of the key people and orgs in the regen movement, like an invite-only LinkedIn, so we are able to connect and get a better understanding of the resources we can access.
A byproduct of hosting events of this size at communities is that they are used as the fuel to fund and build out the community, allowing them to handle larger gatherings and receive recognition.
The Commons
We are coming together to form a stronger base for the commons while allowing more individual creativity, like the Mother DAO which incubates all the various DAOs in the ecosystem, and the open source tech platform connecting all the data on the network in a coherent way, while allowing developers to create their interfaces and building blocks on top of it.
Community-Creation
Holistic, land-based communities are the key to so many of the issues we are grappling with, especially when they are part of a larger network that is creating a parallel system to the mainstream. The summits provide the key resources to help create new communities, such as the funding, and playbooks for governance and business models.
Regional summits for aspiring community-creators and supporters help to kickstart the budding process and provide the scaffolding for them to scale properly. Similar to TEDx where groups can form to create their own events under some basic guidelines.
The Super-App
Effective communication and collaboration requires an app that cuts through the noise to the signal that is unique to each person’s needs. The Super-App is a mashup of all the best web2 apps we are so familiar with but with a shared central database to tag and aggregate all the content, while allowing developers to create their own interfaces to it.
By just using the TODO / project management part of the app, individuals and communities are able to seamlessly coordinate with each other, make better use of our resources, orchestrate collective action and showcase what they have accomplished. This proof of work solves some of one of the biggest issues communities face, which is vetting, grants and providing insights.
The Super-App platform design and buildout is a major part of the summits since it’s an essential part of the foundation, especially for governance and cooperation. On top of that, it’s also a key economic engine since it’s amorphous nature means it can compete with systems like Salesforce, and support quite a good bit of remote staff.
The Top 12 Ripple
There is an amazing web of connections that bind all of us to where no person in the regen community is more then 1 degree away. To choose who we bring into these summits in a fair way, we ask each person to pick their top 12 people who they think would be most helpful, who in turn choose their top 12 people, and so on.
From this we can build a heatmap and understand who are the top people to invite, with smart rules that automatically invite the next set based on a response window, ensuring all the available spots are filled in a timely manner.
Next-Steps
We are launching our DAO and inviting people individually, so if you’re reading this you will hopefully receive your invite soon.
